When my children were growing up I did a lot of commission portrait work. I stopped doing people for a while because I wanted the freedom to explore my own inclinations rather than what was required in creating a likeness. But then I started to experiment with painting people in ways that opened up the space to consider the deepest parts of myself as well as he stories shared with me, and found these images held universal narratives that others connected to in powerful ways.
